Mobile Mural Project

Making the city Beautiful

Brooksville Main Street and the Hernando County Fine Arts Council invites artists to create an original art piece for our Mobile Mural Program. This was our third round of Mobile Mini Murals. The mobile murals will be a part of two Brooksville Main Street events: Murals in the Park and the November Art Stroll.

This event is made possible by the following community partners: R Buckner & Associates | Downtown Loser | Mountaineer Coffee

Project Details

Project Goal: This project aims to enhance the value of downtown Brooksville, promote quality artwork, cause viewer interaction, provoke thought, entertain, and excite visitors through the work of public art.

Theme: The theme for this series is ‘Make Me Smile!’ Although broad, this theme is powerful. We want to display artwork that brings joy to viewers each time they see it downtown. This could be something like a smiling piglet, a group of children dancing, or something punny or funny that is sure to make folks laugh!

  • Jessica Denmark

So I've always admired art and loved to draw as a child. My passion for painting came about 7 years ago when i was asked if i wanted to help paint murals on a daycare wall. I fell in love and went from wall murals to furniture. I love to give life and personality to a worn and used piece of furniture.

It’s art that can be used.

  • Lynn Shaffer

My name is Lynn Shaffer. My husband and I live in New Port Richey. I was an art major in high school and planned on continuing that major in college. But life sometimes doesn’t go as planned. I was told that I wasn’t quite good enough to be included in the art program at my college. So that door closed only to reopen last year. During quarantine, I was encouraged by a friend to participate in a 100-day project. I decided to paint…and I haven’t stopped since. I am now one of the 12 members of the Tarpon Art Guild. I have done many commissioned paintings in the past year. I also paint the world around me, but my favorite paintings by far are when I paint with a purpose. I am currently painting a series to benefit the Hand in Hand orphan school ministry in the Central African Republic. 100% of the proceeds from these pieces will go directly to provide food and education to the many orphans in the CAR. I will also donate the proceeds from this mini mural project to that fund.

Creating art from my heart is my purpose.

I am Jesse Simon. I currently reside in Brooksville, FL. I love doing all kinds of art from painting and drawing to photography and video production. I have experience in commercial video, short films, and professional wedding videos. My paintings are inspired by pop culture, social issues, and mostly involve humanity, emotion, and the human condition. I use lots of colors and bold light and shadow to show my appreciation for and to remind others of the strange, sometimes sad, but undeniably beautiful world we live in.

  • Angela Schiappa

Acrylic on canvas has been my preferred medium of paint since I started my artistic career over 40 years ago. In 2017, I began using the technique of mixing acrylics and pouring the mixture on canvas, popularly known as Fluid Art. As part of my process, once I create a combination of colors, they chemically react with one another, creating visually organic shapes and filling spaces in a fascinating way. Some of the colors I personally love experiencing with are blue, green, a little bit of yellow, magenta, red, orange, white, black, and gold. I also enjoy using a mixed media approach by incorporating sand, stones, and gold foil onto my works; these additions develop variations within the artwork by exploring different themes and textures.

I consider myself an abstract expressionist because my work births from my intimately spiritual experience with my creator, who is my inexhaustible source of inspiration. Admiring the world and its creation is where my art begins to take shape and develops into an explosion of color. Through my work, I hope to take the viewer on a journey where their capacity for wonder can expand beyond the artwork itself. A place where they can experience comfort and peace, and where the beauty and the variation of colors and textures will spark joy and love within their hearts.

  • Jillian Herrera

My name is Jillian Herrera, I have lived in Hernando county going on 3 years now. I grew up in Worcester, MA, and lived there most of my life. I was first involved with art in grade 3 where I won a scholarship for kids with the Worcester art museum. This was the first time I ever felt really special and had a sense of belonging. Art has served as a happy place for me, but it has come and gone through different points in my life. I eventually opened a childcare center in MA where I regained my passion, but it wasn't completely art-focused and I was unhappy. I did something very scary and left my business, sold my house, and came down south to start a new life with my husband, my 2 girls, and my 2 dogs. We explored the east coast and went to Austin, Texas to live for a bit and the art focus was so much more alive here! When I got to Florida I decided I was going to find a way to make an income by sharing art with the world and I picked up a paintbrush and started painting free furniture I would find and fix up on the side of the road Everyone thought I was mad, and truth be told they're a bit spot on, but it's been 3 years going on 4 and I have taught paint classes, made friends, won contests, been offered paint lines to promote and I am still loving my life.
